Step 1. Book your device in

Step 2. Initial iPhone inspection
Our technicians inspect the device to establish the level of damage to the iPhone.  This black cracked iPhone 6 has a high level of damage to the front screen covering the front camera, proximity sensor and earpiece. They also inspect the frame where the screen sits to see if there are any bends or dents that may have an impact on the iPhone 6 screen replacement or prevent a new screen from sitting flush.

Step 3. Removing Bottom Screws
Our tech carefully removes the two bottom pentalobe screws with a pentalobe screwdriver. These screws sit either side of the charging port. This loosens the screen.

Step 4. Removing the Screen
We carefully remove the damaged screen with an iSlack. This is a plastic cup suction device. You could also use a simple suction cup. It is important to use this device rather than prising the screen with a tool as this eliminates damage internally and to the phone chassis. The technician then carefully prises the screen half way off with the suction cup and we remove the rest of the screen with an iSesamo tool or a plastic tool.

Step 5. Removing the PCB Connector Plate
The screen is still connected under a connector covering plate. We initially need to remove the 5 screws from the connector plate very carefully.  These tiny screws must stay in order so when you put them back in the phone when assembling a new screen you do not insert the wrong screw as this could puncture the motherboard and write the phone off.

Some technicians remove the battery connector so the motherboard has no power.  If you are an experienced technician you can alternatively power the device off and use a plastic tool to remove the PCB Connectors – not a metal tool!

Step 6. Remove the 4 Connectors
We have now removed the connector plate and will now use the plastic tool to carefully remove the 4 connectors.  These 4 connectors include, the LCD connector, Touchscreen connector, Proximity & Earpiece connector; and the Home Button connector.  These connectors require a gentle hand and great precision as if you damage one of the main connections then you can damage the phone. We have now fully removed the broken screen.

Step 7. Remove the Earpiece, Camera, Proximity, Light sensor and Microphone Flex Assembly
We have now taken the full broken screen assembly off and will strip back the essential components from the old screen to be applied on the new screen. The critical components that need transplanting from the old screen to the new screen are all attached on flexes and then joined by connectors.

Initially we will remove the Earpiece Guard from the old screen, which contains 3 different screws.  These should be carefully removed with tweezers. Again all of these screws need to be in order so they do not go back in the wrong way during the new screen assembly. Gently lift the front camera out of the way to remove the earpiece. proximity light sensor and the front camera flexes.  

These flexes are stuck down with viscous adhesive.  In a repair centre environment this can quickly be removed by applying heat.  In a call out environment these flexes should be removed with very gentle manipulation. If you aren’t careful the proximity sensor can come off the flex.  Next, remove the front facing microphone.

Step 8. Removing Home Button
Remove the 2 screws that hold the home button assembly in place.  The home button connects to a flex that runs throughout the full length of the device. If you slice into the flex the touch ID will not work.  To avoid this use a plastic tool to carefully disconnect it. We then use an iSesamo to remove the bottom of the flex as this is stuck down with a viscous adhesive.

The technician now pushes the button gently with his finger, avoiding the tiny fragments of glass.  This gently prises the button out of the old screen.

Step 9.  Remove the LCD Back plate
The final component that needs to be removed from the old shattered screen is the LCD Back plate.  There are now 7 screws left in this that need carefully laying in order. The screws are removed with a Philips screwdriver.

Even though all of the screws have been removed the LCD plate is still connected with adhesive to the Touch ID Flex.  This has to be gently removed or the tech could destroy the Touch ID functionality.  For clarity some screen assemblies come with a camera and proximity gasket pre-installed.  If they do you do not need to take these off the old screen

Step 10. Re-installing the LCD Backplate on the new screen
The LCD backplate is now re-installed on the new screen carefully adding the 7 new screws back in

Step 11. Re-installing Touch ID and Home Button
The technician then carefully re-installs  the Touch ID and the Home button to the new screen along with the backplate.  The home button is put back in and the technician tests the feel of the home button.

Step 12. Transplanting the Earpiece, Camera, Proximity, Light sensor and Microphone Flex Assembly on the new Screen
The technician now installs the proximity flex into the correct position using the plastic gaskets either from the broken screen or some new screen come with these pre installed (these are very important).  This enables the tech to then line up the proximity sensor with the light sensor . Once the proximity sensor is connected into the gasket it will hold itself into position for the earpiece flex then to be installed.  This is done by folding the front facing camera away from the screen. The proximity sensors must line up with the earpiece connectors to function correctly. There are 2 guide holes to make sure you get this correct. The earpiece connector plate is then dropped back on and the 3 screws are intricately put back in.

Step 13. Line up Four Connectors to the Screen
We now line up the 4 connectors to the new screen. You have to be careful here not to bend the connectors. If you apply too much pressure this can damage the connectors and the screen.

Step 14. Screen Test
We will now turn the screen on to test if it is working.  We test this by dragging an app icon across the screen.  if there are any dead pixels or spots the app jumps back to its original position.  This will show you a faulty digitizer.

Step 15. Replacing the PCB Connector
We now put the PCB Connector plate back on.  Our tech puts the middle screw back in place to hold the plate on.  The screws are then carefully placed back in the order that they were taken out. We are careful not to over tighten the screws.

Step 16. Adding a warranty sticker
iMend.com techs add a tamper proof warranty sticker to ensure that no-one else accesses the phone post repair.

Step 17. Fix the new screen securely 
The screen is gently clipped back in with the location clips and we re-insert the 2 Pentalobe screws into the phone next to the charging port. Bam we are done!
